The third beta of Mandriva Linux 2006 has been released for download and testing:
"Beta 3 is here! Release notes: 250 bugs fixed since 2006-0.2; 5621 packages rebuilt; fix a bug for configuring mouse; fix some modems firmware loading; enhance GRUB device.map parsing; removed stuff for automatic print queue setup when starting CUPS; Harddrake， use the new way to blacklist modules; packages installation， don’t fork anymore to install RPMs during install， use ’nofsync’ for RPM database; kernel 2.6.12.5; security hyper-threading enabled by default...."

This beta consists of three 700MB CDs， major changes are: the CD now boots on new Macs as well; new kernel supports iMac G5 etc; should now run from SCSI CDROM on OldWorld Macs; another fix for the missing default bootloader entry problem. Known problems: FireWire disk detection is flaky， may need a longer mount delay." The is the release announcement.

Gaim 1.1.2 is out. It contains some minor bug fixes， and a working HTTP connection method for MSN. This should help out people behind strict firewalls. We also have SecurID login support for AOL accounts that require it， thanks to an anonymous user for help getting that working. See the ChangeLog for the rest.
We have a new developer! Please welcome Daniel Atallah to the team.
Gaim’s support for perl scripts is degrading rapidly. Parts of it work; parts of it don’t work. There has been talk of removing support for perl scripts altogether in CVS HEAD. If you have the know-how to work with C/perl integration， the desire to contribute to an outstandingly sweet open source program， and the time to debug， fix and extend a perl plugin loader， we urge you to swing into action and help us out. I’d personally love to see a perl plugin that tests the full range of our perl scripting. Patches are always welcome (the smaller the better!)

Ho ho ho ... here comes a new GeeXboX release. As a tradition， many free software projects release on Christmas and so do we (with a little bit delay， just to be original :-). So， here’s our gift to you to end 2004: GeeXboX 0.98.5. The 0.99 release will come with a completely new interface which is not yet completely finished. The Mandrakelinux developers have released a "cooker snapshot"， an ISO image that represents a pre-beta of the upcoming Mandrakelinux 10.2:

"Available on any good mirror， a Christmas cooker snapshot. Only one CD， but with the extra sources addition feature during install. Installation procedure now uses the Move technology， a compressed loopback， and not a ramdisk any more. Packages are the ones from cooker， except the bootsplash and the mandrakelinux-theme ones. This first snapshot in the 10.2 development cycle is only a preview of the future beta period which is likely to start during January. The estimated schedule programs a 10.2 Community version for March， and an Official version for April."
